Voidfire was originally founded as an
instrumental project by Jakub Maciej Zdzienicki in February
2018.
A little later, in the summer of the same year, the drummer
Łukasz ‘Icanraz’ Sarnacki (Devilish Impressions,Corruption, Abused
Majesty, Christ Agony, etc.) joins the team.
They decide that it’s time for Voidfire to be more than just an
instrumental project.
Jakub Lisicki, a great songwriter, along with vocalist
Krzysztof ‘Virian’ Sobczak (Lilla Veneda) join the duo in 2019 and
work together on their debut album, ‘Ogień Pustki’, which is
expected to be released on February 28th this year.
“Ogień Pustki” is one of the albums that I
find very interesting to hear from end to end.
A melodic black with powerful blasts, extreme heavy vocals and
rhythm, bringing a unique atmosphere to the work.
In “Bladość”, we notice post-rock elements and
a rhythm, part of the album’s very specific shade.
An interesting piece that makes you think about the music you
listen to and where it actually belongs.
“Światło-Cierń” is entering the real
atmosphere of the album – an atmospheric black metal piece with
piercing vocals and cutting instruments. There is also no
recollection of the post-rock elements of the previous
song.
The blasts have already reached their full capacity here, the
riffs break the tremolo, and the vocals erupt with their
fury.
The next piece, “-“, begins with a very
ethereal guitar solo that goes smoothly into a heavy, slow and
methodical instrumental part. The blast beats in this song make a
very good impression right from the start.
The idea of alternating clean vocals and heavy vocals is also
very good and in combination with the strong instrumental , it
creates a truly atmospheric picture.
“Kwiat Pustki” is a very powerful title
of the album.
The brutal vocals, along with the crazy guitars and inhuman
drums … make you shudder.
Strong emotional charge, combined with rhythmic atmospheric
melodies, such as the closing instrumental part in the song, for
example.
The next song, “Sztorm”, begins with a light
instrumental, suddenly bursting into a mental whirlwind of fierce
ferocity. I didn’t like this moment, to be honest, because my
headphones are quite powerful … and such an element is not very
pleasing to the ear. But so are the storms – they come suddenly and
without anyone anticipating them, and after the surprise, you begin
to actually like the storm and enjoy it.
So did I.
“Ogień Pustki” is the final song on the
album.
Whispering, the voices tell you a story that goes in a heavier
atmosphere after a long overture and with its weight, it actually
gives the album a very beautiful ending in the final
minutes.
At the end of the song, in addition to the brutal blast beats,
we can also hear an incredible guitar rock solo work, which one
more time shows the skills of the musicians and their desire to
experiment with their sound.
The moment you notice the cover artwork by
Zdzisław Beksiński, you know that this band has a sense of
art.
The album is a pleasant, atmospheric, melodic and at
the same time, very raw story, written by true masters of the dark
sound.
Each of the musicians proves their skills in the genre
with a swing and the result is one really good album, a valuable
excerpt from the polish black metal scene.
