Piercing blasphemous black metal classics, instead of
sermons by questionable individuals in cassocks, raised on a
pedestal? There’s no better time for a good dose of that than a
double religious celebration dates like the one today…
Let us call upon the demonic forces of BLOODLORD, a black metal
band that, albeit for a very short period of time, contributed to
the blasphemy of the German underground dark sphere and the
world.
With two vocalists, Destroyer and Moonchild, the band combines
equal parts female malice and masculine power into one, delivering
the primalness of a bygone era.
The themes in BLOODLORD’s work are entirely anti-Christian and
occult, with each of their tracks being a definite anthem and
protest against the ridiculous Christian dogmas and in honor of the
Luciferian values.
“As the Dragon Dances” was their second and final record, and in 2000 the band released it entirely independently, with no interest in label collaboration and promotion. However, the mini-album has the typical late 90s quality production, which in this case was perfected at Kohlekeller Studio in Germany, and provides a cold, even slightly gothic and rebellious tone to the record, which will undoubtedly leave most fans in awe.
Clocking in at just over 20 minutes in total, ‘As the Dragon Dances’ features three blasphemous anthems, imbued with primal malice, but also with beautiful haunting melodies and intoxicating rhythm that pushes the listener to their extremes and invites them to dance with fire and brimstone. This is the very meaning of the album – the dragon dance between creation and destruction. The rise of the Antichrist. Rise of the Dragon.
An emotionally charged shriek greets us in “The Dragon’s Flight”, surrounded by chilling riffs, piercing atmospheres and demonic incantations, the song offers beautiful dynamics between tempos and moods, turning the soundscape into a true blasphemous obsession – one that many of today’s musicians would sincerely envied.
“As the Dragon Dances” is a work offering exactly what you would expect from a black metal band formed in the late 90’s – demonic, aggressive, unpolished, powerful and raw black metal, awakening the spirit, but also is much more than that – every a song on this record is like a mantra, like a victorious hymn, like a call to rebellion. Black metal in a haunting and true form that is hard to forget.
