The Czech black metallers Cult of Fire have returned with their powerful fifth full-length album, “The One, Who Is Made of Smoke”. Known for their mystical and esoteric approach to the genre, the band promises yet another profound journey into darkness, spirituality, and transcendence.
The recording sessions took place in January 2023 at Studio Hostivař, under the skilled supervision of Zdeněk Šikýř, whose expertise has contributed to the album’s rich sonic depth. The intricate mixing and mastering were handled by Bruno Varea at Upload Studio.
A standout feature of this release is the stunning visual presentation. The artwork, crafted by the talented Eko Margon, encapsulates the album’s enigmatic essence, while the layout design by Dipayandas Arts further enhances the visual storytelling.
The album also boasts an impressive roster of guest artists, each adding unique elements to the sonic tapestry. Natalie Koskinen lends her hauntingly ethereal clean vocals to tracks such as “Anger” and “Dhoom”, while Anhalas delivers raw, visceral screams in “Anger” and “There Is More to Lose”. The ceremonial chanting in “There Is More to Lose” is performed by Ankit Sinha, adding a ritualistic layer to the composition. Instrumental highlights include Zdeněk Šikýř on the Hammond organ, and Peter Bubák on the djembe, providing an earthy and primal percussive element.
With their characteristic fusion of spiritual themes and black metal ferocity, “The One, Who Is Made of Smoke” is shaping up to be a monumental addition to Cult of Fire’s already revered discography.
The album is out now via Beyond Eyes.
