Sinister and captivating, the enigmatic entity Robust’s debut is the kind of beast that lurks in the shadows—waiting to drag you through the most hidden corridors of the beyond. A force impossible to ignore or brush off lightly.
The album opens with the ominous anthem “Form of a Bear,” which immediately and aggressively sweeps through the auditory space like a shadow creeping across the room. With a hypnotic rhythm and a steady pulse, the song draws you in, pulling you deeper into a unique atmosphere of trance, grandeur, and power. An immersive experience, embodying both the grandeur of nature’s untamed force and the primal energy of ancient rites. The intensity builds with each passing moment, making it impossible to escape from, as the rhythm becomes an unshakable anchor, carrying you through a realm of dark, primal source.
At times, with a distinct and intriguing dark folklore accent (“Enchanter”, “Reconciliation”, “Debris”), other times a brutal and bloodthirsty slaughter without any particularly noticeable embellishments (“Spell Translation”), and in some moments, a pulsating and eerie ritualistic atmosphere (“Feather Key”), we are dealing with an exceptionally fascinating form of dark art. With its multilayered instrumentation, shifting rhythms, and dynamics, perfectly synchronized with frantic and fierce vocal performances, “Robust” becomes a pure sensory Armageddon—in the most thrilling sense of the word.
I won’t exaggerate if I say that I definitely needed this—pure black metal with authentic energy, free from unnecessary pretensions and artificially polished sound. Beautiful black metal—fierce, untamed, and utterly captivating with its emotional charge, strong allure and mysticism. Sinister, dark, and haunting— “Robust” is a must.
