URISK unleash their fierce debut offering, “Shrivelling Lights”

April 25 , 2025 | 10:00

Urisk is a two-piece black metal act from Bonn, Germany, consisting of vocalist Marleen and guitarist/producer Benedikt. Drawing from Atmospheric and Progressive Black Metal, their music weaves together fury and fragility, introspection and myth, raw power and ethereal dissonance.

“Shrivelling Lights”, their debut album, is a self-produced work forged in solitude – six sprawling songs that channel isolation, grief, rage, and a longing for something ancient. It is a descent into personal and collective shadow, built upon jagged riffs, haunting melodies, and vocals that move from lament to invocation.

The lyrical themes explore emotional and symbolic terrains: in “Moonburnt”, scorched memory and spiritual ruin; in “The Grip of Fog”, loss buried in the landscape; and in “Urisk”, a transformation through abandonment. The record closes with “An Eala Bhàn”, a fragile, poetic vision of decay and dread, drawing inspiration from Gaelic folklore.

While the album was entirely self-recorded and produced by the band, Urisk was joined by session drummer Filip Gäddnäs, whose dynamic performance gave pulse to their sonic architecture. Final mastering was handled by Fabian Schulz at Sunsetter Recording Studio in Bremen, Germany, adding a cold clarity to the dense mix. The striking cover artwork was created by Joan Llopis Doménech, reflecting the album’s themes of decay and spiritual unrest.

“Shrivelling Lights” is out today , across all major streaming platforms and as a physical CD – the band’s first official release. Rooted in DIY ethos and uncompromising vision, this is not an easy album. But for those willing to listen closely, it speaks in tongues both forgotten and feared.
