The nominees for the Norwegian Music Awards—Spellemann (Spellemannprisen), Norway’s equivalent of the Grammy Awards in the USA—have been announced. Among them, in the ‘HARDROCK & METAL’ category, are three of the most captivating Norwegian black metal bands and their latest albums: Koldbrann and their latest work “Ingen Skånsel”, Trelldom and their album “By the Shadows” and last, but not least – Whoredom Rife and their latest ferocious attack “Den Vrede Makt”.
First awarded in 1973, the prize honors musicians for their achievements in the previous year. The ‘Metal’ category was introduced in 2001, with the first winner being DIMMU BORGIR with their iconic album “Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia”. This was the band’s second nomination for a Spellemann Award and the first time a black metal band had won the prize (their first nomination was received back in 1998 in the category ‘Hard Rock’, with the album “Godless Savage Garden”, being in the good company of another nominated black metal band – Mundanus Imperium). Since this year, the category is known as ‘HARDROCK & METAL’.
The awards show this year will be held at Clarion Hotel the Hub
in Oslo on Thursday, April 24th.
A special video from the ceremony will be uploaded here at one
point, after the ceremony ends: https://tv.nrk.no/serie/spellemannprisen/sesong/2024.
Here is what KOLDBRANN
themselves had to say about the nomination:
“We are thrilled to be nominated for Spellemannprisen, and in
great company with WHOREDOM RIFE, TRELLDOM and SIBIIR! Ingen
skånsel to the masses..!”
